Harambee stars Left Back Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma honoured abroad

Harambee Stars and AIK defender Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma marked his 100th appearance for Swedish powerhouse AIK during the club’s fixture against Mjallby.

Ouma played a vital role for the full 90 minutes in the match that ended 1-0 in favour of AIK.

Before the match, he was presented with a jersey with his name and 100 on it to signify his appearance.

Marcelo’s teammate Anton Salestros netted the decisive goal in the 20th minute.

The Left Back joined AIK in 2020 after leaving the Swedish side, IF Vasalund.Ouma has played 82 games for AIK, spending a total of 6940 minutes on the field.

He rose to the limelight while playing at Kakamega High School, secondary schools’ football powerhouse after which he joined Kenyan Premier League giants and defending champions Gor Mahia.

He left Kogalo in 2017 to join the Georgian club Kolkheti Poti in January all this time he has been earning a call-up to the National team Harambee Stars.

In May this year, he was been ranked as one of the best dribblers among fullbacks aged 23 years and above,  according to a report by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES).

The former Gor Mahia left-back was ranked third among the top 10 fullbacks. He was judged based on how often he dribbled, how successful those dribbles were, and the skill level of his teammates and opponents.

Ouma was in the third position, with Javi Galan from Spain’s Celta Vigo and Joao Cancelo from Bayern Munich ahead of him. What made Ouma stand out was his excellent dribbling success rate, which was 78.9 percent. In comparison, Galan had 69.2 percent, and Cancelo had 64.3 percent.
