Hassan Joho stays true to his style amidst formal Government expectations

Kenya and around the world, a suit is often seen as the ultimate symbol of professionalism, a uniform that signifies authority and positions one firmly within the societal hierarchy.

However, Cabinet Secretary for Mining Hassan Ali Joho is turning this norm on its head.

Known for his vibrant and unconventional leadership style as the former Mombasa Governor, Joho has stepped into his new role with a refreshing lack of adherence to the traditional dress code.

While most Kenyan Presidents and Cabinet Ministers have favoured sleek suits and a sharp look, Joho has maintained his signature casual attire, even in the face of official duties.

When Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was selected as President Ruto’s running mate, an urgent wardrobe overhaul was required to align with his new office.

Tailors worked tirelessly to ensure the DP looked every bit the part. Yet, despite the pressure to conform, Joho seems unperturbed by the traditional expectations of his new position.

His wardrobe remains filled with vibrant Hawaiian shirts, khaki pants, stylish loafers, and that unmistakable trademark beard.

This deviation from the norm has not gone unnoticed.

During a recent public event, Deputy President Gachagua took Joho to task for his casual dress code. “We will have some issues getting used to working with these newcomers,”

Gachagua remarked. “Joho is still acting like the ODM deputy party leader.

He needs to adapt quickly. Next time you meet, I’ll remind you not to wear a cap in front of the President. You’re now a CS.”

His approach to both fashion and speech defies conventional expectations, making him a notable figure in Kenya’s political landscape.

Joho’s continued nonconformity highlights a clash between traditional expectations and individual expression.

As he navigates his new role, it’s clear that Joho’s flamboyant spirit will continue to challenge the status quo.
