“Hata mfanye nini, watu walitoka UDA kitambo” – Gachagua bullish as teargas disrupts Nyandarua event

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the actions by the police after a teargas canister was thrown to the podium where he was seated during a thanksgiving service in Shamata Ward, Ndaragwa Constituency in Nyandarua County.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the teargas was thrown at the VIP dias when Nyandarua Senator John Methu was addressing the crowd. The clergy too were not spared in the melee.

A fierce exchange between police officers and the crowd ensued, with the crowd overpowering them forcing the to leave the scene in a haste.

Speaking after the situation calmed down, Gachagua said that it was unfortunate that police officers who are supposed to be providing security resort to disrupting a peaceful meeting.

He added that the Mt. Kenya region will not succumb to intimidations from the government to silence them from speaking about its ills.

On the region’s stand in demonstrating their discontent to the government, the former DP said that the region will not shy away from criticizing the government as none of the promises the president made to the region has been fulfilled.

“You cannot govern people by force and you cannot force them to do what you want… tutaongea nao  tujue nini imewakasirisha…Ata  mkivunja mkutano ata mkituma vijana wakuje na mapanga hawa watu wote walishatoka UDA,” said Gachagua, with the incident coming a month after he was attacked in Limuru during a burial ceremony.

Gachagua has as well added that the country cannot be managed through intimidations and harassment maintaining his stand on calling out the government to respect the decisions of Kenyans.
