‘He wanted a very huge bribe,’ Njoroge explains why he beat a police officer

A driver who was arrested in Kayole, Nairobi over the assault of a traffic police officer in Kasarani on Sunday June 2, 2024 has disclosed the reason for his actions.

Speaking after his arrest on Monday, the driver identified as Ian Njoroge said he was annoyed by the traffic police officer who had demanded a very huge bribe.

This was after Njoroge was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from his home in Jacaranda area in Kayole.

“I was just angry. We were not understanding each other because he wanted a lot of money which I could not get,” he told the officers.

In addition, Njoroge pleaded for forgiveness, saying that he had never assaulted a police officer before but was only overpowered by anger.

The detectives had put him under a harsh interrogation, seeking to get more information on why he committed the offense.

At the same time, the officers wanted to know if Njoroge had undergone any training that enabled him to overpower the police officer.

However, he stated that he had not undergone any training and was a law abiding citizen.

In a video that is circulating on social media, one of the officers asked Njoroge to utter insults at himself.

“Sema wewe ni wazimu (Say you are a madman),” said the officer.

“Mimi ni wazimu kabisa (I am a madman),” said Njoroge

Another officer told Njoroge, “Wewe ni ng’ombe (you’re a cow)”
