Lilian Biwott, a female administration police officer, is now in court facing serious charges after she allegedly shot her husband to death.
She is accused of shooting dead his husband Victor Kipchumba on the night of October 9, 2023, an incident that took place at their rental house in Kimumu estate, located along the Eldoret-Iten Highway, on the outskirts of Eldoret City.
During her appearance in court before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Biwott recounted a harrowing tale of domestic violence and self-defense. She claimed she acted to protect herself and their four children when her husband became violent and attempted to snatch her official AK-47 rifle.
In a chilling narrative, Biwott told the court that just days before the shooting, on October 14, 2023, she received a distressing call from Kipchumba, who threatened to kill their children. Additionally, their house help had reached out to her, reporting that Kipchumba was making alarming calls to unknown individuals, indicating he planned to harm their family.
The court heard that when Biwott entered their bedroom, she found her husband armed with a knife, leading to a violent confrontation that lasted about an hour. Describing the intense struggle, she stated that had she not acted quickly by firing at him, he would have killed her first. She depicted her husband as an abusive man who had subjected her to insults and physical violence, often in front of their children.
Following the tragic incident, Biwott reportedly knelt down to pray for forgiveness, highlighting the emotional toll the events took on her. Since her arrest, she has been held at Eldoret GK Remand Prison, having been denied bond due to security concerns.
Justice Nyakundi has directed that the proceedings continue on October 9, where the prosecution is expected to close its case.
