Security has been beefed up at the Meru County Assembly ahead of the debating of a motion of impeachment against Governor Kawira Mwangaza by MCAs.
Led by North Imenti Sub-County Police Commander Aden Ario, the police officers have been deployed around the premises, after reports that goons might try to stop the process by invading and torching the assembly.
According to Citizen Digital, gunshots were heard overnight after some goons reportedly tried to access the assembly.
Deputy Majority Leader Zipporah Kinya tabled a notice of motion to impeach the county boss.
The motion wants Governor Mwangaza removed o grounds of gross violation of the constitution and other laws, gross misconduct and abuse of office.
This comes even as Governor Kawira Mwangaza moved to Nairobi High Court to stop her impeachment.
In her petition, the governor urged the court to convict Kinya, Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi and Clerk Jacob Kirari to be convicted over alleged contempt of court.
Mwangaza wants the trio to be jailed for six months and fined, arguing that they ignored court orders by tabling a fifth impeachment motion against her.
“The respondents/contemnors are perpetuating the very mischief meant to be cured by the earlier conservatory orders of this court hence are guilty of contempt of court. They are adamant and bent on seeing the impeachment motion go through the County Assembly process without due regard to the rule of law and particularly the orders of this Honourable Court,” Mwangaza argues.
