Kenyans Kevin Kiptum is indeed that athlete to watch as his rise in the athletics sense is surely being felt.

As a result there might be a chance that the 23 year-old will one day be the first human to run a sub two hour marathon in normal conditions.

Yes Eliud kipchoge did run a 1:59 race back in October 2019, however this was under with preset conditions and the race was not world athletics certified.

But there is no doubt that Kipchoge is the king of marathon, setting and breaking World long distance race records .

On Sunday Kevin Kiptum became the first man to run a race in sub 2:01 in the Chicago marathon smashing the record set by Eliud Kipchoge in Berlin last year where he ran the marathon in 2:01:09. The 23 year Old run the Bank of Chicago marathon in 2:00:35.

Consequently that marked a significate pay day for kiptum as he will be rewarded handsomely by World Athletics after all the ratifications are done by the governing body.

He is set to take home $150,000 which translates to KSh 22 Millions.

Kiptum is set to receive a $50,000 bonus (equivalent to Sh7.4 million) for achieving a new record at the Chicago Marathon. This bonus is consistently offered across all competitive divisions of the race.

On top of this bonus, Kiptum will also be awarded $100,000 (Sh14.8 million) for securing victory in the marathon.

In summary, Kiptum’s total earnings for both winning the Chicago Marathon and establishing a new world record will amount to $150,000 (Sh22.3 million).
