Here is how to beat the current Kenya’s heat

Currently, Kenya feels like we are kilometers away from the sun. As Gen Z would call it ‘The sun is sunning’ and this, as much as it has its cons also has its pros.

This type of weather is cool and actually fun when you look at it from a different perspective. For instance, a good swim would really be a fun activity that your body would appreciate you for.

Don’t even get me started on the cool and refreshing feeling an ice cream will give your dry throat.

The rains will be here soon enough so you might as well enjoy the sun while you can.

What you need for the heat.

  1. Sunscreen

Now this is a must if you love and care for your skin. I know we black folks are boastful about how strong our melanin is thus it is more resistant to the damage of sun exposure but best believe the damages the sun cause to our skin is great enough to get you worried.

Research done by the National Library of Medicine states that black skin can warm, burn, and peel when exposed to the sun. The heat can cause hyperpigmentation and photo-aging manifestations among other effects.

To prevent this, a little rub of sunscreen of your choice will save and retain the shine on your skin.

Do not let the shine of the sun intimidate the shine of your skin. They can co-exist.

Do I need to even detail the importance of hydrating?, Water is not only a key factor during this hot season but every day regardless of the season we are in.

A water bottle will be convenient and the bigger the bottle the better.

Did you know that you are required to take at least 6-8 mugs of water a day to maintain good health?

Our body depends on water to survive as it performs key functions like maintaining temperature, removing waists, and lubricating our joints.

Consumption of hydrating foods and fruits is recommended as well.

There is already enough burden in the world, carrying a heavy sweater that you don’t need on a hot sunny day should be off the list.

Wearing tight and heavy clothes will only make you sweaty and that isn’t the goal we are aiming for.

Instead, opt for light and loose cotton clothes to avoid excessive sweating.

You can style up your outfit with a cute hat that helps block the sun.

Taking in heavy meals during a hot season generates heat in the body thus making you feel uncomfortable and exhausted. This is due to the work your body does to digest and metabolize it.

Instead consume light and freshly cooked meals and cut down on processed food and intake of salty food.

Also, avoid tea and coffee as well as it contains caffeine that increases the body’s core temperature.

Engaging in recreational activities will help you tone down the heat.

This could be going for a swim, an ice-cream date, or chilling in the park under a shade enjoying views.

Taking a nice lukewarm shower is also key.
