High Court advocate Bernard Kipkoech Ngetich has urged the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to take decisive action against the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for its failure to resolve the brutal murder of two security guards at Kapkawa Coffee Mill in Roret, Kericho County.
The victims, Charles Rotich and Joseph Langat, were attacked and killed on November 19, 2024, when unknown assailants stormed the coffee mill, managed by the Roret Cooperative Society. The attackers subjected them to gruesome torture, gouging out their eyes, strangling them and tying them up before ending their lives.
Ngetich condemned the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for its inaction, noting that despite the severity of the crime, no substantial progress has been made in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He criticized the lack of investigative reports or recommendations forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“The failure by the DCI to act on this heinous crime is unacceptable. We demand accountability and justice for the victims and their grieving families,” Ngetich stated.
“There have been numerous cases of brutal murders across Kericho County and beyond, yet the Inspector General remains silent except for occasional media appearances that amount to nothing,” Ngetich lamented.
He warned that insecurity is on the rise, leaving Kenyans in fear, a situation he described as a direct violation of their fundamental rights under the Constitution.
Residents of Roret have echoed Ngetich’s concerns, urging authorities to act swiftly in apprehending those responsible. They have called for increased security measures to prevent further incidents of violence and ensure justice for the slain guards.
As the pressure mounts, all eyes are on the government and law enforcement agencies to take concrete steps in resolving the case and restoring public confidence in the justice system.
