Justice Daniel Ogola Ogembo, the presiding judge at Siaya High Court, was found dead at his residence on Wednesday, July 17 morning.
Ogembo, who was reportedly unwell the previous day, was discovered by his driver when he arrived to pick him up for work as usual.
The driver, unable to reach Ogembo on calls and texts, sought help to access the house, where the lifeless body was found. Police were notified, and the scene was processed after the family arrived.
Ogembo, who had been staying alone at the time, was pronounced dead, and his body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigations.
The tragic news comes just days after the passing of another judge, Justice David Majanja, following complications from a surgery.
Siaya Governor James Orengo paid tribute to Ogembo, stating, “Justice Ogembo had a marvellous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Ogembo, who was appointed as a High Court judge in 2016, had a distinguished career in the judiciary. He joined the judicial service as a magistrate in 2004 and served at the Eldoret, Milimani, and Siaya High Courts since his appointment as a judge. He was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1993.
