High Profile players set to miss the Euro 2024

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is a regular in England’s squad but is among the plethora of high-profile football players who are set to miss out on this year’s Euro competition.

The list of absentees is contributed to by many factors, including injury and suspension, while some have simply been snubbed.

However, this gives a chance for many upcoming players to take part and show their prowess on the intercontinental tournament.

England’s coach Gareth Southgate’s list, however, caught the eye of many after he left out many ‘big names’ in his 26-man squad.

Such as Marcus Rashford, Reece James, Jack Grealish, Jordan Henderson, James Maddison ,Raheem Sterling, Ben White, and Harry Maguire.

List of England players to miss Euro 2024

Jack Grealish

Despite playing for Manchester City, Grealish contributed just three goals and three assists in 36 appearances in all competitions, meaning the £100 million man had dropped well down the pecking order before the season’s end. This means his exclusion does come as a suprise.

Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson’s exclusion from the English team was welcomed after his decision to leave Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq last summer and this proved to be a PR disaster. Many players have been heading to the Middle East for the lucrative deals and this paints many as hypocritic by putting money above principles. However manager Gareth Southgate attributed Henderson’s omission to fitness concerns. Henderson left after just six months in Saudi Arabia, returning to Europe with Ajax.

Reece James

The 24-year-old Chelsea man has had a history of hamstring injuries problems subsequently putting in doubt his match fitness also  Southgate decided against calling-up James for the Euros because he plays in a position in which Southgate is well-stocked.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguires exclusion can solely be based on a calf injury given that Southgate has a shortage of quality center-back , Harry Maguire was poised to a earn a call up in the last 26 man squad. This is a huge blow to the Manchester United defender who will be 33-year-old in the next world cup.

Marcus Rashford

Despite Marcus Rashford being one of the top forwards for England during the 2022 World Cup the ghost of the terrible season for Manchester United seems to have denied his the call up in Southgate’s Roster for the 2024 Euro. Rashford has yielded just eight goals in 43 appearances in all competitions at club level.

Raheem Sterling

Just like Rashford 29 year-old Raheem Sterling club troubles have velcored onto him  Sterling suffered such a slump in form that he even became a target of the Stamford Bridge boo boys. It also didn’t help that he was completely outperformed by his Chelsea team-mate Cole Palmer.
