Four people, including two students from Mbita High School, were injured in a road accident along the Sindo-Mbita road on Wednesday April 2, 2025 in the morning.
The accident occurred when a speeding vehicle traveling from Sindo town lost control, veered off the road, and struck the victims from behind as they were walking.
The injured individuals were initially taken to Mbita Sub-County Hospital before being transferred to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized care.
Dr. Vincent Oduor, Chief Executive Officer of Homa Bay County Referral Hospital, confirmed that one of the students sustained a severe head injury and remains in critical condition, while the other has been stabilized. Another victim suffered an eye injury and is currently undergoing medical examination.
Mbita High School Principal Kennedy Ojijo stated that school officials responded promptly to assist the injured students and ensured they received medical attention. The students were reportedly heading home after schools closed for the April holiday.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
