Hip-Hop Star A$AP Rocky sets sights on owning English league club

Tranmere Rovers’ co-owner Mark Palios has hinted at a swift conclusion to the sale of the League Two club, fueling speculation that rapper A$AP Rocky is part of a potential takeover.

The 36-year-old rapper, who is in a relationship with pop icon Rihanna, is reportedly linked to an investment group led by celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina, aiming to purchase an 80% stake in the club.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Palios, a former Football Association chief executive, was coy when asked about A$AP Rocky’s involvement but hinted at a quick deal.

When asked if there was a timeframe for the sale, Palios smiled and simply said, “ASAP.”

Palios, who has co-owned the club with his wife Nicola since 2014, later spoke with BBC Radio Merseyside, confirming that Tranmere had been seeking investment for nearly two years.

“The club has unrealized potential and can be taken forward. We didn’t put up a ‘for sale’ sign, but we’ve been approached,” he explained.

Joe Tacopina, who has a history of owning Italian football clubs, is among several interested parties.

Palios mentioned that Tacopina had attended games but noted that other potential investors have also been evaluating the club.

“Joe is a fascinating character, but he’s just one of many people showing interest in Tranmere.

We’ll let the fans know when there’s something official to announce,” Palios assured.

On A$AP Rocky, Palios acknowledged the rapper’s celebrity status, though he admitted, “I’m of an age where I’m not deeply into his music, but I’m told he’s very well-regarded.”

American investment in English football has gained momentum in recent years, with celebrities like Ryan Reynolds, Tom Brady, and Michael B. Jordan all acquiring stakes in various clubs. Palios sees this as a market Tranmere can tap into.

“There’s a huge audience in the U.S. watching English football.

What’s happening with Wrexham has shown the value of lower league clubs, and we’re ready to capitalize on that,” he said.

Since Palios and Nicola took over Tranmere, the club has seen highs and lows, from being relegated to the National League to bouncing back to League One before settling in League Two.

Now, with high-profile interest brewing, Tranmere Rovers could be set for a new chapter.
