The year 2025 is barely three months in, yet it has already been filled with unexpected moments.
Hollywood Actor Malik Yoba has added to the list by making a shocking statement—he no longer identifies as Black.
Radical shift in identity
In a viral video, the 57-year-old actor announced his decision to reject racial labels commonly used in America.

Instead, he proposed a new term: “What I am is a non-white man. And I think we should all just start calling ourselves non-white.
Let them figure it out. Let them come up with something that just says,
‘We don’t like all non-whites.’”
While his statement initially seemed unusual, some believe Yoba is making a deeper point.
Rapper Willie D shared his thoughts on the matter, suggesting that Yoba’s words highlight a growing divide in America.
“Are you picking up what he’s putting down?” Willie D asked his YouTube audience.
He explained that Yoba sees the Trump administration rallying white Americans together, and in response, non-white individuals should unite as well.

The political backdrop
Yoba’s declaration comes at a time of significant political tension.
President Donald Trump has issued an executive order eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in workplaces and government funding.
He claims this move is meant to restore fairness in federal hiring.
Trump even linked a recent aircraft crash in Washington D.C. to DEI policies.
He alleged that his predecessor, Joe Biden, called the Federal Aviation Administration workforce “too white” and suggested that diversity hires lacked the same psychological qualifications.
“We have a high standard. You have to go by brainpower, by psychological quality,” Trump stated.
Yoba’s statement may have sparked controversy, but it also reflects the deep racial and political debates shaping America’s future.
Whether his idea of a “non-white” identity gains traction remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—his message has people talking.
