Homa Bay: 50-year-old woman found dead in a river

The body of a 50-year-old woman was recovered from River Awach in Kabondo Kasipul on Monday January 29.

Caroline Akoth’s body was discovered trapped in reeds and twigs in the river waters two days after she went missing.

Kasewe location’s chief, Dickson Samba, confirmed her death and reported the incident to the nearby police station.

Samba urged the police to conduct investigations and determine the cause of the woman’s death.

“We found the body trapped in reeds and twigs in the river waters. The matter has been reported to the police for investigations,” stated Samba.

Speaking to the media on Monday, 29th, after the incident, Samba mentioned that the woman’s family informed him that Akoth didn’t show any signs of distress before her disappearance.

He further explained that the family had been looking for her, but she was nowhere to be found.

“Her husband reported that he realized Akoth was missing when he went to check on her at the farm. They started searching for her and found the body two days later before alerting the authorities,” he explained.

According to the family members, Akoth disappeared on Friday, claiming that she had gone to cultivate her land at Ogenga village in Kasewe location.

After realizing she was missing, her family members reported to the police.

Justus Kucha, the subcounty commander from Othoro station, stated that they were informed and visited the scene to retrieve the body.

The woman’s body was then taken to Jawabu mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Kucha urged residents in the area to report any cases of missing persons, emphasizing that further investigations and family interviews will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
