Homa Bay: Vehicle carrying 24 church members involved in tragic road accident

A tragic road accident in Malongo, Homa Bay County, has left one person dead and 15 others critically injured after a truck overturned in Suba South.

The vehicle was carrying 24 members of a church, who were enroute to Suba Sub-County Hospital in Sindo to collect a body for burial when the accident occurred.

Eight other passengers sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a nearby clinic, while those in critical condition were rushed to major hospitals for emergency medical care.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by overloading and poor road conditions.

The vehicle, originally intended for transporting luggage, had been repurposed to carry passengers—an issue that raises concerns about adherence to road safety regulations.

In response, authorities have launched an investigation into the accident and are working closely with the affected families to offer support.

Officials have urged the public to follow road safety guidelines and ensure vehicles are used for their designated purposes to prevent further tragedies.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by overloading and poor road infrastructure, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures to protect lives.
