Househelp confesses to stealing KSh683,000 gold ring from employer, selling it at KSh4,000

A househelp on Monday, August 12 at the Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi, confessed to stealing her employer’s gold ring valued at KSh683,000.

Violet Ndukwe Lijodi was arraigned alongside Francis Mwima and charged with the offence of stealing the ring.

The court heard that Lijodi, who worked as a househelp in Runda Acacia Grove, stole his employer’s ring and sold it to Mwima at KSh4,000.

An emotional Lijodi pleaded with the court to forgive her, saying that she stole the ring to help her ailing father.

“On diverse dates between August 3 and 8, at Runda Acacia Grove, house number 19, within Westlands Sub-County, Violet Ndukwe and Francis Mwima stole a gold ring worth $5,300 (KSh683,700), property of one Norah Michelle Were,” The charge sheet presented before Milimani Magistrate Rose Ndombi reads.

Lijodi and Mwima were also charged with additional charge of handling stolen property knowingly.

But on the other hand, Mwima pleaded not guilty to the charges, pleading to be released on lenient bail terms and be given a chance to clear his name.

Consequently, Magistrate Ndombi directed a pre-sentencing report be availed while releasing Mwima on a KSh500,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on September 5, 2024.
