A middle-aged househelp has been sentenced to five years in prison or pay a fine of KSh15 million after she was found guilty of child pornography.

The Milimani Childrens Court Principal Magistrate Jackie Kibosia convicted and sentenced Sharon Wabwile who was found guilty in all the three counts.

The prosecution, through Victor Preston Owuor, submitted during sentencing hearing that the victim had suffered emotional loss, praying for compensation under Section 26 of the Victim Protection Act.

The court heard that the accused — who was at the time of committing the offence working as a househelp — took several pictures of the seven-year-old victim whom she was supposed to protect while she was asleep.

It was also revealed that Wabwile went further to sent the naked photos of the minor to her boyfriend who had requested the accused’s naked images.

The court further ordered the accused to pay a restitution amount of KSh2 million to the victim adding that the restitution will take precedence over the fine.

The court went on to state that in the event that she is unable to raise the amount, then the victim is at liberty to claim the same through the Victim Protection Trust Fund.

Magistrate Kibosia also ordered that the images be expunged from all social, print, and visual media platforms and that the phone that was used to take the images be forfeited to the Communication Authority of Kenya.
