Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for armed goons who invaded Bondo Police Station, in Siaya County during protests on Tuesday July 2, 2024 and injured several police officers.
In a statement on Thursday July 3, DCI noted that the goons stormed the police station while armed with crude weapons.
“Manhunt is underway for goons who yesterday invaded Bondo Police Station while armed with crude weapons including stones and catapults, slings, petrol bombs and other concealed weapons, seriously injuring several police officers and maliciously destroying property,” DCI reported.
In addition, DCI noted that one of the suspects, identified as Sostine Otieno, was arrested in connection to the incident.
“Already, one of the suspects (Sostine Otieno) captured in a phone recording attacking a police officer and leaving him sprawled on the tarmac before robbing him of his anti-riot gun (launcher) has been arrested and the gun recovered, as pursuit for his accomplices who have since been identified heightens,” read part of the DCI statement.
Meanwhile, one of the police officers whose life was saved by Good Samaritans is admitted in critical condition at a hospital in Bondo.
However, most of the other officers and members of the public who were also injured in the attack have been discharged from hospital.
The DCI released the statement, shortly after publishing photographs of wanted suspects believed to have orchestrated illegal activities during the anti-government protests in different parts of the country.
The suspects were instructed to present themselves at the nearest police station for further legal proceedings.
Additionally, members of the public have been encouraged to provide information on the whereabouts of the individuals anonymously through the hotline hotline number 0800722203 or by calling 999, 911, or 112.
“The Individuals whose images/photos appear below are wanted by the police for their unlawful activities during the anti-finance bill demonstrations. We therefore advise them to report to the nearest police station for further police action,” stated the DCI.
