‘How I suffered while in Nairobi’ – Bungoma Goliath

Isaac Otesa, commonly known as Bungoma Goliath from Bungoma known for his extraordinary height, found himself grappling with the harsh realities of urban life in Nairobi.

His journey is both a testament to his resilience and a reflection of the challenging conditions faced by many who leave their rural homes in search of a better life in the city.

Isaac Otesa, who attracted significant attention for his claim of being taller than Bradley Marongo—whose height is reported to be an astonishing 8 feet 2 inches—was thrust into the limelight due to his imposing stature.

His story seemed to take a hopeful turn when Manzi wa Kibera, a well-known figure in Nairobi’s social circles, extended a helping hand.

Manzi wa Kibera, known for her charitable initiatives, offered to assist Isaac, aiming to provide him with a platform and resources to improve his situation.

However, the promise of support did not translate into the improvements Isaac had hoped for.

Life in Nairobi proved to be a daunting challenge. The vibrant city, with its bustling streets and seemingly endless opportunities, also harbored its own set of difficulties.

Isaac’s struggles were compounded by a lack of stability and resources. He found himself facing severe hardship, including the threat of hunger, which became a pressing concern.

“We used to be three of us in the house sharing one bed, that is a girl by the name Dorry G, Evans and myself.

At some point it forced one of us to sleep on the coach because the space was not enough and the way I’m tall plus I was the visitor so…

The following day they told us that they were going to take us for an interview and that Manzi wa Kibera was going to buy me shoes.

I received a lot of attention from fans on that day coming to me saying ‘hi Bradley’ .

We then proceeded to the shop to get shoes, I tried on a few pairs but no pair fit me.

We finally got one pair but unfortunately they both din’t fit me well, one leg was bigger than the other.

So we left there and they told me, they have gotten me one pair and two pairs were remaining.

It was just like that, then we left and proceeded to the house at around 10p.m then we started cooking at around 11 p.m, as the norm, they left the three us in the house again, to share the same bed.

It’s at that point that I said no, this will not be possible, but I persevered again till morning, then I asked Evans because he’s the one I came with claiming to be my manager when I get here, he knows how to talk with fans when they call me, he told me he will be in charge of everything.

The following day they said they’re going to take clothe measurements.

There was this guy who claimed that he’s the one who interviewed my brother Bradley, so that day we went in a certain field, they interviewed me, we then proceeded to get clothes, they even promised to buy me more clothes, suit type clothes which I’ve never received till now.

On the same same day, they conducted like four interviews on me. After that they promised to send me money the following morning but I’ve not received the money till date, the clothes they promised I’ve also never received.

The other day I went to town to pick those clothes but I was told that the tailor was not there , so I said no and asked Evans how we’re going to survive in that house.

That made me leave to go look for a hustle because the idea of two gents sharing a bed with one lady din’t sit right with me.

After a while I was told that the little I’m making I should atleast share it with my wife back at home, I also had a motorbike that I was paying for.

They also told me to buy them food, so again the little I had made, I bought food because things were really tight,” he complained.

The harsh realities of urban life quickly overshadowed the initial optimism Isaac had harbored.

The scarcity of basic necessities and the overwhelming cost of living in Nairobi led to a situation where survival became a daily struggle.

Despite the assistance offered by Manzi wa Kibera, the gaps in support and the enormity of the challenges left Isaac in a precarious position.

Eventually, the pressures became too great for Isaac to bear. The vibrant yet unforgiving cityscape of Nairobi forced him to make a difficult decision.

He returned to Bungoma, his rural hometown, seeking refuge from the harsh conditions of city life.

The move back to Bungoma was not just a geographical shift but a return to a place that, despite its own challenges, offered a semblance of stability and familiarity.
