How Kenyan businessman was robbed KSh4.9 million by four Uganda police officers

Four police officers have been dismissed from the Uganda Police Force for allegedly robbing a Kenyan businessman of his money.

A police report says that the four officers duped Muhammed Olad Abdirahim, 37, who had USD30,000 (KSh4,905,000) and wanted to exchange to Ugandan shillings for purposes of buying a lorry.

The report indicates that on the fateful day (January 17, 2024), Abdirahim went to Royal View Hotel Buziga for accommodation. He then requested the manager of the hotel to help him identify the forex with the best exchange rate for USD.

How robbery happened

The hotel manager is said to have informed the four police officers and one Okello who was pretending to be a foreign exchange broker.

“They reached the hotel around 4pm and in conspiracy with Okello… and the manager of the hotel, caused the arrest of the victims. They bundled them into a motor vehicle, and drove them through Kabalagala barracks road, up to another hotel garden, where they robbed from them the USD 30,000 and chased them away,” the police report reads in part.

The victim(s) narrated the incident to a Kenyan friend who helped in reporting the incident.

The officers were arrested and a quick search was done in there homes where some dollars were recovered.

Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says efforts are underway to track down and arrest Okello and the hotel manager.

The police officers have since been identified as Detective Constables Among Phiona, 28, Angula Isaac, 27, Baluku Shafik, 26, and Galenda Bernard.
