Police officers in Bwebajja, central Uganda, have arrested two suspects involved in a robbery incident that occurred on June 6, 2024, at around 11pm.
The victim, Mbadiremu Maria, a 28-year-old mobile money dealer and shop owner, was attacked and robbed of approximately Ugx 3 million (KSh100,000) by a thug armed with a pistol.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was approached by Bugaya Edrine, a 20-year-old friend who wanted to withdraw money.
However, during the transaction, a robber armed with a pistol attacked and robbed the victim.
Maria managed to identify the armed robber as a friend to the customer – Edrine. She raised an alarm after suspecting mischief and contacted the police counter number at Bwebajja Central Police Station, prompting a swift response from the police team.
The investigation revealed that Edrine had conspired with Bahati Kisekka, the 27-year-old armed suspect, to commit the crime. Both suspects were arrested that night.
Police recovered several exhibits of evidential value, including an unmarked pistol without a magazine, Ugx 1.5 million (KSh50,000), a black jumper, hood, face masks, and mobile phones with supporting messages.
These items were recovered from the known premises of Nadia Excel Recruitment Ltd, which is rented by Aisha Nanyonga.
The pistol is believed to have been smuggled from South Sudan by Kisekka to aid their criminal enterprise.
Meanwhile, Territorial Police have urge the public to make use of the counter numbers at the nearest police station or post, which operates 24/7.
The suspects have been charged with being in possession of an illegal firearm, robbery, and related conspiracies.
