Creating your own candles allows you to customize scents and aesthetics to suit your preferences.

Materials you’ll need:

  1. Soy wax flakes or beeswax pellets
  2. Candle wicks
  3. Essential oils (optional)
  4. Wick holders or chopsticks
  5. Glass jars, vintage containers, or molds
  6. Double boiler or microwave-safe container
  7. Thermometer
  8. Pencils

Preparation

1: Prepare Your Workspace

Set up a clean and organized workspace. Lay down newspaper or wax paper to catch any spills or drips.

Select containers for your candles. Glass jars, vintage tea cups, or even tin cans can be repurposed as candle holders.

2: Measure and melt the Wax

Measure the amount of wax you’ll need based on the size of your containers. Use a kitchen scale for accuracy.

Melt the wax using a double boiler or a microwave-safe container. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer, ensuring the wax doesn’t overheat.

If desired, add a few drops of essential oil to the melted wax to create a pleasant scent for your candle.

3: Attach Wick

Dip the metal end of the wick into the melted wax and then center it at the bottom of your container.

Use a wick holder or tie it around a chopstick placed across the top of the container to keep it centered.

4: Pour the Wax and secure the wick

Slowly pour the melted wax into your container, being careful not to disturb the wick.

Leave a bit of space at the top. Wrap the top of the wick around a pencil, and place it across the top of the container to keep the wick straight and centered.

5: Let it set and trim the wick

Allow the candle to cool and set completely. This may take a few hours.

Once the candle is fully set, trim the wick to about ¼ inch above the wax surface. Light and Enjoy!

Creating your own candles allows you to customize scents and aesthetics to suit your preferences.

Whether you’re making them for personal use or as thoughtful gifts, the process of crafting homemade candles can be both relaxing and fulfilling.
