Kevin Wekesa and Patrick Odongo scored two tries each as Shujaa started their Pool C campaign at the HSBC Challenger 2024 opener in Dubai with a 41-0 win over Mexico at The Sevens Stadium on Friday 12 January 2024.
Wekesa scored in the first and third minutes, Nygel Amaitsa missing the ensuing conversions as Shujaa led 10-0 before Tony Omondi converted Amaitsa’s try for a 17-0 lead.
Odongo scored at the stroke of half time to put Shujaa 22-0 up at the interval.
It was soon 29-0 after the restart, Odongo landing his brace, Omondi converting before further tries from Vincent Onyala and John Okoth cushioned by an Amaitsa conversion secured the result for Shujaa who play Uganda at 5.58pm EAT.

Meanwhile, the Lionesses have begun their HSBC Challenger 2024 campaign in Dubai with a 17-12 victory over Pool B favourites China at The Sevens Stadium on Friday 12 January.
It was China who went ahead through Chen Keyi’s unconverted try for a 5-0 lead that they took into the break before Grace Okulu scored and converted for a 7-5 lead.
It was soon 12-7 to China when Liu Xiaoqian went over with Gu Yaoyao converting but the Lionesses responded with two tries from Stella Wafula and Judith Okumu to claim the victory.
