Hype Ballo released on KSh500k cash bail in DCI officer murder case

Kenyan entertainer Allan Ochieng alias Hype Ballo has been released on a KSh500,000 bail in the murder case of a Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer in Kiambu County.

Hype Ballo, who has been under police custody for over 14 days, was presented before Kiambu Law Courts on Wednesday, May 8 for bail application hearing.

The entertainer was earlier charged with murder of DCI officer identified as Felix Kintosi attached to Kabete Police Station in Kikuyu sub-County.

Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony granted him cash bail of KSh500,000 or bond of KSh500,000 with surety of a similar amount.

She further order Hype Ballo to attend all court sessions, report to DCI Kikuyu Sub-county on the first day of every month until the key witness testifies, and remain under the supervision of Kibera area chief until his case is finalized.

He denied the murder charges on April 23, 2024 before the Kiambu Law Courts.

Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) on that day requested the court for more time to detain him pending a report from Probation and Aftercare.

Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony  allowed them seven more days to detain him at Nairobi remand prison.

Hype Ballo was arrested alongside six other suspects including renown entertainer DJ Joe Mfalme (real name Joseph Mwenda).

Joe Mfalme has since turned into a state witness in the murder case.

In the March 16 incident, the late DCI officer was reportedly involved in an accident with Joe Mfalme’s vehicle.

Apparently, the late officer hit the other vehicle with five occupants, leading to an altercation that fast turned violent. One traffic officer on patrol reportedly came to the detective’s rescue and rushed him to Nairobi West Hospital.

The late detective was admitted after complaining of lower abdominal pain. He however succumbed on March 21.

Hype Ballo’s case will be mentioned on May 22, 2024 pretrial and scheduling of a hearing date.
