Uganda’s State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization Anita Evelyn has confirmed she withdrew an ambulance she donated to Koboko Health Center after losing an Election in 2021.
Anite lost to National Resistance Movement flag bearer Dr. Charles Ayume a medical doctor and politician who now represents Koboko Municipality.
The Minister was the subject of conversation on social media after an X account posted about the incident which happened two years ago.
“Ugandan Politician, Evelyn Anite took back an ambulance she donated to her district, after losing an election in 2021.” read the post by Africa Facts Zone.
She took to X saying that she does not regret the action adding that the electorates chased her away and are now crying.
The politician revealed that she had gone through pain after losing the elections, and said what the electorates did to her wasn’t a good deed.
“I actually did it, and I am very proud of my action. Once they said go away, I packed all my belongings and left them. now I hear people crying as if I was the first one to call it quits. The Bible says the wage of sin is death.” She wrote.
“@AfricaFactsZone, Thank you for bringing this up. First, it’s true I took back my ambulance & I have no apologies for that. Why did I do it? It’s because they didn’t vote for me. So did you expect me to walk away with nothing? Galatians 6:7 A man reaps what he sows.” she added.
How the ambulance mess started
On September 7, 2020, Anite delivered the ambulance to the municipal health department and committed to covering the driver’s expenses for up to six months.
However, despite this generous donation of a rare service, it was insufficient to shield her from a humiliating loss in the election.
In the NRM primaries, she was outvoted by Dr. Charles Ayume, the son of the late Francis Ayume, the former speaker of parliament.
During the general election, Ayume secured victory against Charles Yakani, an independent candidate who had received support from Anite.
Anite’s defeat was a significant disappointment, considering her prior prominence as a dominant force within the NRM leading up to the primaries.
