“I don’t think it was love” Mungai Eve opens up about break up with Trevor

Kenyan content creator Eve Mungai recently shed light on her breakup with Trevor and the complex dynamics of their relationship. Despite their image as the perfect power couple, Eve revealed that their bond was not rooted in love, but in circumstance.

“I don’t think it was love; it was the situation that brought us together,” she shared, offering a glimpse into how external factors can often overshadow genuine emotional connections.

To the public, Eve and Trevor seemed inseparable. Together, they built a brand, worked tirelessly to carve a name in the competitive world of content creation, and achieved the kind of fame that many young people in Nairobi aspire to. But behind the scenes, their relationship was far from the fairy tale it appeared to be.

For Eve, moving in with Trevor wasn’t driven by passion or romance. Instead, it was a matter of survival. “I ended up in a come-we-stay marriage because I didn’t want to go back home to my parents’ house, and I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” she explained. “It was at a time when people were starting to know me, and we had to focus on the career.”

The hustle was real for Eve. She recalled how she used to go to Kamukunji, buy belts for 80 shillings, and resell them at 150 shillings. “That’s where I got money for credit, food, and even to buy supper for my then-boyfriend. Money that I hawked from selling belts,” she said, laughing at the memory of how hard she worked just to keep things afloat.

But amidst the grind, Eve and Trevor had their share of material success, symbolized by Trevor’s Toyota Crown. Sarcastically, Eve recounted the story of the car’s unfortunate end. “It belonged to him, but we used it as a family. By the time of the breakup, it was written off after an accident,” she said, reflecting on how even their prized possessions couldn’t survive the strain of their relationship.

Addressing the rumors circulating online, Eve made it clear that their separation wasn’t due to being “fired” from the partnership. Instead, she described how the relationship had turned toxic.

“It reaches a point where you’re just toxic to each other, and all you want is for the person to get out of your life,” she said. “I had to let go, unlike what some of you have been saying—that I was fired.”

Eve’s candid words shed light on the reality of many young relationships in the city—where love is often entangled with survival and circumstance. For her, it wasn’t the romance of a lifetime, but a practical decision made at a time when there seemed to be no other choice.
