Wife to slain Indian businessman Jayesh Kumar has now confessed to hiring people to ‘punish’ him on Valentine’s Day.
Kumar’s wife Velji Jayaben Jayeshikumar was arrested on Wednesday, February 20 after her husband was found lifeless at Lukenya Conservancy, Machakos County.
She was presented before Magistrate Irene Kahuya at the Kibera Law Courts where she revealed that she indeed wanted her husband tortured not killed.
Jayeshikumar allegedly contacted a friend to help “discipline” her husband as they were having unspecified marital issues.
Indian businessman goes missing
Upon her arraignment, it was established that the widow was in contact with one of the four suspects earlier arrested in connection with the gruesome murder.
“Jayaben is alleged to have been involved in the murder plot after phone analysis revealed that she was in contact with one of the four suspects who were arrested and arraigned at Kibera Law Courts on February 19th.
“She is reported to have asked the suspect to help discipline and torture her husband as the two had disagreements … The other suspect agreed and recruited others to execute the plan,” Magistrate Kahuya stated.
Apparently, on the day Jayesh Kumar went missing, he was captured on CCTV walking his son to school at 7am in the company of his wife along Kodi Road in Nairobi West.
His wife reportedly made the call to one of the suspects to ‘carry out the mission’.
The Indian national is said to have been ‘picked’ by one Kaylan Verkariya Kaylan Shivji who was driving a Toyota Prado and proceeded to Machakos County. This was the last time he was seen.
About three hours later, Kumar’s wife received a call from one of the suspects saying the job was done, only for her to learn that they had murdered him.
Brutal Murder
The lifeless body of Kumar was discovered by security guards manning Lukenya Conservancy later that day after noticing a trail of blood.
This led them to a thicket where they recovered a checked shirt with blood stains. shoes, underwear, metal rods and pieces of bones believed to be those of a human.
They alerted the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers based in Kyumbi. In their statement, the guards presumed that the victim had been mauled by wild animals.
Upon visiting the scene, investigations into the incident kicked off, linking them to their counterparts from Lang’ata Police Station.
This is where the Indian businessman’s brothers Hetish Kumar and Dipak Valji filed a missing person report the day he went missing.
Investigators uncovered a well-planned murder plot where Kumar was kidnapped by Kaylan Verkariya Kaylan Shivji on Valentine’s Day and driven to Lukenya Conservancy where the other hitmen awaited.
Kumar was allegedly hit on the head before being killed. The hitmen then doused his body with acid and dumped it there.
Meanwhile, his wife will be detained for 14 days as prosecution concludes investigations. The suspects will also undergo mental evaluation to ascertain whether they are fit to stand trial.
