I love AFC Leopards but I’ll sue for unpaid salary- Collins Shivachi

Former AFC Leopards defender Collins Shivachi finds himself at a crossroads as the ongoing dispute over unpaid wages between him and the club intensifies.

Contemplating his next move, Shivachi is considering taking his case to the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).

In a social media statement dated Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Shivachi officially announced his departure from the club due to the expiration of his contract.

“It’s time to announce and clear the air: I ran out of contract and am no longer a member of this great club. Thanks for the memories. all the best. See you soon! AFC Leopards SC,” the player said in a statement.

However, it has come to light that the 1998 Kenyan Premier League champions have yet to settle the salary and allowances arrears owed to the 29-year-old defender.

Faced with this financial impasse, Shivachi is contemplating legal action to secure his rightful dues from the club. He, however, acknowledges that pursuing this route may not sit well with Ingwe fans.

“Despite going to the tribunal, I’ll remain a great supporter and a big contributor to the club. Thank you, and I am happy to be part of the club,” Shivachi’s statement added.

Shivachi’s journey with AFC Leopards began in 2020 when he joined from Tusker.

During his three-year tenure at the den, he achieved the milestone of reaching the final of the FKF Cup in 2021, although they ultimately lost to arch-rivals Gor Mahia in a penalty shootout.

The versatile defender’s professional career kicked off at Western Stima before he spent three years with 2009 Kenyan champions, Sofapaka.

Following his tenure with Batoto Ba Mungu, the Kakamega-born center-back joined Tusker in 2015 before eventually signing for AFC Leopards five years later.

Notably, Shivachi boasts one Kenyan Premier League title, which he clinched with Tusker in 2016.

In a remarkable season, he also secured the FKF Cup, completing the double despite losing just three games and shipping in only 25 goals.
