The family of the late Sergeant Rose Nyawira in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, says they are still in shock following her sudden death.
Sergeant Nyawira was among those who died after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet, killing 10 soldiers.
Peter Wachira Kariuki, Sergeant Nyawira’s father, says the death of their daughter is a big blow to the family and the community at large.
Speaking to TV47 on Friday, a day after the tragic crash, Wachira said that his daughter had visited them on Saturday. “I am the one who took her to the bus stop on Monday morning at 4am. She was travelling back to work in Nairobi.”
The father says that on the ill-fated day (Thursday, April 18), Sergeant Nyawira had called her in the morning to follow up on a joint farming project that they were undertaking.
They, however, did not complete their conversation, agreeing to continue with it when she returns to Nairobi after assignment in Elgeyo Marakwet.
During her last visit, Sergeant Nyawira had accompanied her father to the National Cereals and Produce Board depot in Sagana, where they took bags of fertilizer for planting.
Wachira described her daughter as jovial and hardworking, revealing that he will continue with her legacy with the expansive agriculture project they had partnered in.
