Kuresoi North member of parliament (MP) Alfred Mutai has disclosed that he will never apologise to anyone for voting ‘yes’ for the Finance Bill 2024.
Speaking during a public rally in his constituency on Monday July 1, 2024, Mutai noted that if the same Finance Bill is tabled again in parliament, he will still vote ‘yes’.
Mutai maintained that he does not regret voting ‘yes’ to the controversial Bill at the floor of the House.
“I voted ‘Yes’ and I will never apologise for it because I knew that ‘Yes’ would bring this road, that ‘Yes’ would bring development here,” Mutai said.
Meanwhile, he warned Molo constituency residents that they would regret attacking their MP Kimani Kuria for tabling and supporting the Finance Bill in the National Assembly.
According to Mutai, the Finance Bill was meant to improve the lives of Kenyans, adding that it was wrong for Kenyans to attack MPs who supported the Bill in parliament.
“If there is a constituency that has really benefited, then it is Molo constituency. There is no bad road in Molo, every part of Molo has power connectivity,” Mutai claimed.
He added that he was ready to take the position of National Assembly Finance Committee chairmanship if Molo residents did not want their MP to hold the position.
The Kuresoi North MP warned that prayers conducted by the clergy at MP Kimani Kuria’s home would have consequences for those involved in looting and destroying property at the home.
Kimani Kuria is among several MPs whose homes and property were destroyed by angry Kenyans over their support for the Finance Bill.
However, President Ruto disclosed that he will not sign the Bill into law after considering the views of Kenyans.
President Ruto rejected that bill and sent it back to parliament on June 25, after anti-Finance Bill protesters stormed parliament and destroyed property.
