Ian Njoroge charged with robbery with violence, assault and resisting arrest

Ian Njoroge, a teenager who was captured on viral video assaulting a police officer in Mirema, Nairobi, has been charged with three counts at the Milimani Law Court.

The 19-year-old man was charged with robbery with violence, grievous harm, and resisting arrest.

According to the charge sheet, Njoroge is accused that on 2nd June 2024 at Kamiti Road in Kasarani, he robbed Corporal Jacob Ogendo of battery of police communication gadget and mobile phone (make Samsung Galaxy note) valued at KSh50,000.

The charge sheet also says that immediately before or after the said robbery, the suspect wounded the said police officer.

His lawyer, Duncan Okoth, is seeking the court to release his client on bail since he is a student.

Citizen TV reports that once Njoroge has been charged with the three criminal offences, he will also be arraigned before a traffic court.

He was arrested on Sunday, June 2 evening at his home in Jacaranda area in Kayole, Nairobi.
