Barely three days after the arrest of 54-year-old Teresia Wanjiru, emerging reports indicate that anti-narcotic officers are holding the wrong ‘Mathe wa Ngara’.
Wanjiru’s family and neighbours claimed she was wrongfully arrested during the Tuesday raid in Ngara’s Kariua slums.
“I had just stepped out and when I came back to the hotel I found them putting handcuffs on my mother,
“I wondered what she had done wrong yet I had left her preparing some tea,” Wanjiru’s daughter Sheilah Waithera narrated, wiping away tears.
The quinquagenarian’s mother Grace Mwihaki allegedly attempted to intervene but to no avail.
“I asked the officers why they were arresting my child and they said it was not an arrest. Tunampeleka akapumzike tu,” she explained.
Recovery of KSh13.4 million, drugs
DCI detectives recovered two gunny bags holding KSh13.4 million in cash, 26 bags of cannabis, four cartons of rolling materials, 173 packaged sweets, and a carton of suspected weed cookies.
Three more suspects aged between 16 and 17 were arrested alongside Wanjiru and are in police custody pending arraignment.
‘Real’ Mathe wa Ngara revealed
It appears that the arrest and recovery of drugs was a result of DCI sleuths failing to fully share their plan with officers from the Anti Terror Police Unit based at Parklands who have allegedly been colluding with the real ‘Mathe wa Ngara’. Furthermore, Kwa Mathe was tipped off minutes before the authorities arrived at the scene.
An intelligence report indicates that the suspect who has reportedly gone into hiding is identified as Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu aged 46 years.
Wanjiru is set to appear at the JKIA Law Courts on Monday, August 21.
