As the Senate holds its final sitting today to deliberate on the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) Philomena Mwilu has affirmed that the judiciary will handle the matter in accordance with the Constitution.
The DCJ said that this is if an appeal is brought before them after the ongoing senate process is over. DCJ Mwilu was responding to question from journalists at Thika Law Courts precincts yesterday evening after an intensive education to members of the court on benefits of joining Sheria Sacco.
Mwilu emphasized that the ongoing impeachment process is a constitutional matter, and not an unprecedented one.
“Everything has its first, but this impeachment is not unique; it is simply the application of the Constitution,” she said.
Mwilu highlighted that more than 20 applications had already been filed in court before the Senate process began, and if the matter returns to the judiciary, it will be treated like any other case.
“If it comes to us, it will be handled in the same way as any other case, in accordance with the law and the Constitution. We cannot act outside these parameters,” the DCJ clarified.
Additionally, Mwilu, who chairs the Sheria Sacco board, noted that the Sacco has seen significant growth, with investments exceeding KSh 1 billion, up from KSh 250 million before her tenure.
She urged the Thika business community to consider joining, highlighting the importance of young people investing wisely for the future.
