‘If you believe Kenya is bad, go to another country’ – MP tells off Ruto critics

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament (MP) Beatrice Elachi on Sunday January 12, 2025 urged Kenyans to respect President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday in Nairobi, Elachi told residents who believe Kenya is a bad country to leave and seek citizenship in another country.

“Foreigners coming to Kenya say Kenya is a good country, but Kenyans are there complaining and not going away. If Kenya is bad why not leave, what are you doing here at a bad place, disappear,” said Elachi.

“We must respect the president; he is our father. When you go abroad they wonder which country we come from,” she added.

According to the Dagoretti North MP, it was wrong for Kenyans to insult the president on social media platforms.

Her remarks emerged at a time when there is an increased criticism of President Ruto’s administration, especially on social media.

Meanwhile, President Ruto, who was also present during the Sunday service urged Kenyans to support Raila Odinga in his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

The president urged those ridiculing Raila Odinga’s bid to tone down their harsh sentiments and instead embrace unity in championing one of their own.

“Remember our leader Raila Odinga as we wish him to be the AUC chairperson. That position is not his, it is for the continent and ours as a nation,” President Ruto.

“You have not vied for the seat, you are not competing with him, why are you censuring him? Let us have goodwill for Kenyans,” he added.

Elachi’s remarks emerged a few days after COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli called on Kenyans to respect President William Ruto and his administration, emphasizing the importance of upholding the dignity of the presidency.

Speaking at a public event in Bungoma on January 3, 2024, Atwoli urged citizens to support the government’s efforts to implement its agenda.
