IG Douglas Kanja visit home of policeman killed in Haiti

Inspector General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja on Sunday March 2, 2025 led senior officers in visiting and condoling with the family of constable Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai who was killed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Kanja and his team visited the family at Naserian Village, Kajiado East Sub-County, Kajiado County, as they mourned his death.

The Police IG eulogised Tompoi as a hero and ambassador who lost his life in the line of duty while in Haiti for the UN backed Multinational Security Support Mission.

According to Kanja, the officer was well-trained for the Haiti mission and his death was a great loss to the National Police Service.

The 28-year-old Tompoi who was shot in the head during a fight with criminal gangs in Haiti, was an expert sharpshooter.

At the same time, Kanja explained that the Kenyan government was committed to ensuring that police officers deployed to Haiti receive the necessary support.

He also noted that the body of the officer is expected to arrive in Kenya on March 5th or 6th, adding that all preparations for transporting the body had been completed.

He assured the bereaved family of the government’s and police department’s unwavering support during this mourning period.

Kanja was accompanied by DIG-KPS Eliud Lagat, DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli, and other senior members from the National Police Service.

Senator Peris Tobiko, State House Controller Dr. Katoo Ole Metito, and NPSC Commissioner John Ole Moyaki were also present.
