National Police Service (NPS) now says that it has received intelligence that certain organised criminal groups are planning to infiltrate, disrupt and destabilise peaceful protests organised by Gen Zs today.
Acting Inspector General Douglas Kanja is urging protesters to remain peaceful and vigilant, pledging that police will uphold the rule of law, serve and protect, as well as maintain law and order during the protests.
“While you demonstrate, we urge you to remain peaceful and vigilant. Please collaborate, cooperate and coordinate with the police to ensure your safety and our collective security as Kenyans is guaranteed during the event,” IG Kanja says.
Although IG Kanja acknowledges that young Kenyans are exercising their fundamental right to peacefully assemble, picket and demonstrate under Article 37 of our Constitution, he says that recent demonstrations have led to tragic loss of lives, injuries, violence, criminal conduct and the destruction of property.
