Sometimes, we all want to feel appreciated for the good deeds we perform in life. Kenyan striker Lorna Faith experienced this feeling after her stellar performance on the pitch helped Kenya secure a 2-1 victory against Mexico at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Faith was awarded the Player of the Match title after an impressive performance. She scored one of the two goals that led her team to victory. The Butere Girls High School striker shared that the award means a lot to her, inspiring her to work even harder to achieve her dreams in football. She’s motivated to keep improving her game to earn even more prestigious accolades.
“This plaque is a cherished memento,” she said. “I’m going to place it in our home and look at it daily as a reminder of my accomplishments in the Dominican Republic. This award will always serve as a reminder never to lose hope, no matter the circumstances. It reminds me to give my best in everything I do.”
Reflecting on the intense match against Mexico, Faith shared how she was fully motivated to make her country proud. “I’m happy I did it. I gave Kenya my best, and the result speaks for itself. I’m incredibly proud of myself as a striker,” she said.
“This tournament has provided us with invaluable exposure. It was an excellent platform to showcase and develop our talents. We gained so much experience here and during our pre-training camp in Spain,” she noted.
Faith expressed deep gratitude to Kenyan fans who supported the team throughout their journey, from the qualification rounds to the World Cup matches. “Their support was incredible. We will always be grateful to them. Please keep that cheerful spirit alive,” she encouraged.
As a takeaway from the tournament, Faith urged her teammates to continue working hard to meet the high standards they encountered at the World Cup. “Don’t rest on your laurels. Work hard to reach even better clubs. Set ambitious goals that challenge you. Let’s take our talents to Europe and beyond in pursuit of success,” she advised. “And when we achieve our dreams, let’s help others struggling in the game so they can also rise.”
