I’m very happy because a lot of Mt. Kenya women are pregnant – DP Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared his delight at the increasing number of expectant mothers in the Mount Kenya region, celebrating those who have successfully carried their pregnancies to term and delivered healthy babies.

Speaking at his Mathira residence during Christmas celebrations with the locals, Gachagua credited this positive trend to the ongoing efforts to combat alcoholism in the area.

“A few days ago, I called upon parents to come and collect flour and cooking oil. Nearly 10,000 people gathered here. I instructed them to form a queue with mothers who have young children. Despite the children crying, I was filled with joy,” Gachagua remarked.

The former Mathira MP expressed his contentment with the campaign launched at the beginning of 2023 to eliminate alcohol and drug abuse in the region.

According to Gachagua, these substances posed a threat to the region’s future by hindering reproduction.

However, he noted that the current initiative is yielding positive results, evident in the increasing number of women conceiving.

“I reiterated, let expectant mothers form their queue. Surprisingly, theirs was even longer. I am immensely proud that our society is making a comeback. We now have newborns, and expectant mothers are ensuring our community continues to grow,” he added, prompting laughter from those present.
