Guo Haiyan, Ambassador of China to Kenya, hosted the UDA Party and representatives of Chinese women living and working in Kenya to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The 2025 theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ calls for rapid advancements in gender equality and focuses on recognising strategies and tools that drive women progress in education, employment, and leadership.
The UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan — who represented the Party Chairperson Cecily Mbarire — led the UDA Delegation. He emphasized the need to prioritize economic empowerment of women as we mark the 30th year of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action because the world is deeply unequal.
Omar highlighted that focusing on the need to accelerate action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
Ambassador Haiyan applauded the Kenyan women for their determination and resilience in securing their safe space, battling for opportunities, and resources in different fields.
The ambassador called on all women to pursue their dreams and goals with courage. She recognized the late Hon. Wangari Maathai, a great Kenyan woman who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her work in environmental sustainability, democracy, and peace. Hon. Maathai was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
