In Summary

  • King Charles III is outspoken on environmental sustainability, education and young people.
  • Dedicated to plants and his garden, he revealed in 1986, and again in 2012, that he talks to plants. "I just come and talk to the plants, really. Very important to talk to them, they respond," he said in a previous interview.

King Charles III is advertising a KSh5.6 million (£40,000)-a-year gardens manager job at Buckingham Palace, United Kingdom.

The Monarch, who is known for talking to his plants, has invited interested parties to apply for the post.

Through an advert on the royal website, the King is looking for someone "passionate about plants" to work at the palace for 39 hours a week from Monday to Sunday.

The role is described as "caring for the gardens that thousands will admire".

"As Gardens Manager, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance and presentation of the Buckingham Palace Garden and its surrounding areas to an exceptional standard," reads the ad.

"Leading a dedicated and talented team, you’ll use your skills and expertise to deliver all important lawn maintenance and the caring for shrub, herbaceous and rose borders."

One must be an expert in horticulture management, backed up with a relevant qualification (such as HND, ND / NVQ 3 or RHS Level 3 or even a Botanic Diploma in Horticulture).

"You’ll have previous experience delivering maintenance for a high quality landscape garden through others, ideally within a historic environment. This means you have excellent knowledge of lawn maintenance, and cultivating a broad range of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.

"Able to demonstrate a range of horticultural craft skills, you’ll be well equipped to use the wide range of garden machinery we have here, including rotary machines and large mowers. Ideally holding a clean UK driving license, you’ll also be confident driving a lorry as part of your duties," the ad adds.

The application deadline for the job is November 3, 2022.
