A Sharia Court in Kaduna State, Nigeria, has ordered a woman to return 100,000 Naira (KSh27,304) dowry to her husband after the two ended their one-month marriage on mutual agreement.
While confirming the divorce, Justice Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai ordered Maryam Dahiru to return dowry money and clothes that her husband Salihu Yakubu had bought her, which she was yet to use.
Dahiru was also ordered to return a clothing suitcase that her husband had bought for her.
"She will only return the clothes she hasn’t used. The complainant has the permission of the court to move her belongings from her former husband’s house,” a Nigerian publication quoted the judge as saying.
Dahiru filed for divorce on October 12, 2022, saying that she was no longer interested in the marriage.
On his side, Yakubu told the court he loved his wife and did not want to let her go.
