Police have launched investigations after a 40-year-old suspect was discovered lifeless in a cell at a police station in Yala, Siaya County.
Fredrick Odhiambo Ochieng’ was found dead under unclear circumstances at Ramula Police Station.
Odhiambo, who had an active assault case at the Siaya law courts, had been apprehended for failing to appear in court as summoned.
Vitalis Otunga, the Assistant Chief of Uranga Sub-Location, provided chilling details about the incident. The suspect was brought in and tragically, found dead just twenty minutes later.
“He was found dead twenty minutes after he was taken in. A police vehicle was set to ferry him to Yala Police Station,” Otunga said.
The authorities revealed that Odhiambo had been evading justice, prompting them to take drastic measures. In a desperate attempt to locate the suspect, they arrested his mother. Upon learning of his mother’s detention, Odhiambo’s brothers came forward and disclosed his whereabouts to the police.
The body has been removed to Yala Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where a thorough investigation into the cause of his death is underway.
