Isaac Githuka: MKU student shines in ongoing music festival at Moi Girls Eldoret

Isaac Githuka Mbugua, a Mount Kenya University (MKU) student, stole the show in the ongoing Kenya Music Festival at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Githuka showcased his prowess in the African cultural instrument category, by expertly playing instruments that are alien, especially for the Gen Z generation.

The MKU student presented several classes during the 96th Kenya Music Festival, including; Class 1134 Marimba, which is a barred, melodic instrument from the Mijikenda community in Coastal region.

“I managed to top the best universities in Kenya including Kenyatta University which came short in the second position,” Githuka says.

He also presented Class 1131 Ishiriri, which is a one string Luhya instrument, as well as Class 1133 in the festival that started in August 2 and runs through August 14, 2024.

This year’s theme for the festival is ‘Talent Development for the Growth of Creative Economy.’ This means that the festival will highlight the economic potential of the creative sector, which can contribute to the country’s development through the promotion of cultural and creative industries.
