Isaac Mwaura accuses LSK of sabotaging, humiliating Kenya Kwanza government

National News

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has claimed that the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has been sabotaging and humiliating the Kenya Kwanza government since it came to power.

Speaking on January 11, 2024 during an interview with Citizen TV, Mwaura said that LSK has always sabotaged President William Ruto’s development projects by challenging them in court.

According to the government spokesperson, LSK was behind the court ruling that temporarily suspended deduction of the Housing Levy from employed Kenyans.

He added that the Housing Levy as enshrined in the Finance Act 2023 was a key component of President William Ruto’s affordable housing project.

“Whenever anything happens, LSK, who had shown support for the other political faction, always resists the government,” said Mwaura.

“Their work is to always ensure that they go to court and humiliate the Kenya Kwanza government. What is wrong with wanting to give every Kenyan access to good healthcare, decent homes and provide jobs through them,” he added.

At the same time, Isaac Mwaura lamented that Kenya’s judicial system is compromised by corrupt individuals who support the agenda of selfish people to stop government development projects.

Mwaura also defended Kenya Kwanza government housing plan, insisting that it was meant to benefit Kenyans with lowest income.

His sentiments emerged at a time when President William Ruto has intensified attacks on the Judiciary over alleged corruption that has delayed implementation of government projects.

Speaking recently while launching affordable housing projects in different parts of the country, President Ruto vowed to weed out all corrupt individuals in the judiciary and other arms of government.

“We will protect the independence of the Judiciary. But we will not allow selfish individuals to take it captive.

“We respect the judiciary but the judicial impunity by corrupt judicial officers must stop in Kenya. We will stop it with whatever it takes,” said President Ruto.

On the other hand, LSK President Eric Theuri on January 3, announced nationwide lawyers’ protests to castigate President Ruto’s remarks that his government will disregard court orders.

Theuri had directed legal practitioners to put on purple ribbons during protests to signify their support for the Judiciary.
