“It was Governor Kawira who was heckled, not President Ruto” Ichungwah

Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichungwah echoed President William Ruto’s words condemning the ongoing trend where voters jeer elected leaders.

Speaking on TV47’s Daily Report in the segment ‘Politics and Power’ on Monday, he divulged that President Ruto’s outburst in Meru castigating residents for heckling was as a result of booing Governor Kawira Mwangaza and not him (Ruto) as earlier reported.

“President Ruto’s viral booing video had everything to do with local politics specifically in Tigania and Igembe constituencies,” said the three term Kikuyu MP.

“The President was reacting to the heckling of Governor Kawira Mwangaza who could not finish her speech because of the heckling.”

Mr Ichungwah went ahead and condemned political leaders who have become notorious for paying the youth to disrupt political meetings.

“This happened in my own county (Kiambu) two weeks ago.”

“The President was supposed to attend a coffee reform meeting so some leaders paid some youth KSh100 or 200 to jeer at him so as to send a message to the President that they have a big say in the locality.”

“Upon realising that the President was a no show as he had other commitments, they did not attend the meeting that was headlined by the CS (Mithika Linturi).”

“This is not the time to prove who has a say, the time will come when we start campaigns next year,” remarked Ichungwah.

He went ahead and painted a picture of his expectation of the electorate.

“I truly look forward to days when we can have the experiences we had in the last campaign (2022). We would find crowds charged waiting for us at 9:00 am.”

Kimani Ichungwah said that he purposes on leaving a legacy where laws enactment will be for posterity as well as a country where state capture is a thing of the past.

The ‘Power and Politics’ segment on the Daily Report is hosted by TV47’s seasoned journalist George Maringa on Monday at 9:00 pm.
