“It’s fake!” – EACC investigating impersonator(s) who issued fake summons to Hanifa Farsafi

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has dismissed as fake a letter that is circulating on social media alleging that it has summoned influencer Hanifa Farsafi.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi says there is no investigation involving Hanifa, emphasizing that the letter does not originate from the Commission.

The fake document had requested Hanifa to present herself at the EACC’s Integrity Centre by 9 am on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and to bring any relevant documents related to her fundraising efforts.

“The Commission does not have any investigation relating to Hanifa Farsafi or her institution,” Ngumbi said.

Ngumbi also warned that such letters could be part of an increasing number of criminal activities where individuals are defrauding Kenyans by disguising as EACC officers.

Commenting on the letter, Hanifa took to her X account and stated, “What is this?” accompanied by a laughing emoji, questioning the authenticity of the document.

In respect to this fake letter, the Commission has launched investigations with a view to taking appropriate action against the culpable person(s).

EACC says that by dint of this action, the said person(s) have committed offences under various laws, including impersonating an EACC Investigator (Commission Secretary/CEO), a criminal offence under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
