I used roughly Sh300,000 for the process; that would change depending on your case. If you guys have assets together, a problem with child support.

Furthermore, “There is just a lot. There are a lot of hearings and so on. Mine was even traumatising because it was during the Covid-19 period, so your case is mentioned, you can’t go to court, you do online, then it’s canceled. That trauma really got to me,” Matubia explained.

When shared assets and child support enter the equation, it spirals.

Endless hearings ensued, exacerbated by the trauma of conducting it all amid the turbulent waves of Covid-19.

“Court dates shifted, morphing from in-person to online and then, abrupt cancellations. The turmoil was truly overwhelming,” Matubia revealed.

Her sentiments echoed a newfound trepidation toward the institution of marriage, unveiling an apprehension that haunts her at the prospect of a white wedding encore.

“Having weathered the storm of divorce in Kenya—a convoluted and arduous process—one becomes wary. The fear looms large when contemplating that certificate, that commitment,” she confessed.

Matubia, acclaimed for her stellar performance in the iconic TV series ‘Tahidi High,’ underscored the arduous emotional and financial strains synonymous with divorce in the Kenyan landscape.

As someone who has been married before and gone through the scare of going through the divorce process, divorce in Kenya is not easy, and there is a lot of back and forth. You get scared of being married, getting that certificate,” she shared.

Advocating against hastened unions, she proposed a prolonged engagement period, urging openness and patience.

Take your time, embrace transparency. I’ve been forthright since the outset, even pre-engagement.

Don’t be in a hurry, and if you can, just be open about it. I was open from day one even before the engagement. I was not sure I would go down that road of a church wedding.

Adding, “If someone is engaged for 10 years and not married yet, people should understand that some people are scared.

Matubia concluded with a resolute stance—while not closing doors on marriage entirely, she is in no rush.

“I would even stay with the person in the house for over 15 years before I decide to do a wedding.”

Their love story, which commenced in 2014, endured until eight months ago.

Matubia and Kennedy Njogu share a daughter, a testament to a chapter once filled with shared dreams and aspirations.
