Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalang’o, has emphatically stated that he will not resign from his parliamentary seat despite calls from his ODM Party.

During an interview on TV47 on Friday, September 22, 2023, Jalang’o asserted that he has not betrayed his party leader Raila Odinga and deemed it imprudent to step down from his position.

He remarked, “It would be unwise and illogical for me to resign. What have I done wrong? Resigning would imply admitting wrongdoing.”

The first-term legislator has faced criticism from the opposition for his meeting with President William Ruto at State House, along with other lawmakers aligned with the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

However, Jalang’o defended his actions, stating that there was no mistake in meeting the head of state.

He argued that even Raila Odinga had met with William Ruto, emphasizing that he, too, had the right to meet whomever he chooses.

He stated, “I have committed no offense by meeting the President. Who hasn’t met the President? Even Baba himself has met with the President. People accept that Baba is Baba and can meet with anyone. Similarly, Jalas is also Jalas, and he can also meet with whomever he wishes.”

Jalang’o: Raila gave me 5 million shillings for campaigns

Jalang’o has remained steadfast in his allegiance to Raila Odinga, even amidst the shifting political landscape.

He openly shared that the leader of the ODM party had provided him with 5 million shillings in support of his 2022 election campaign.

“He supported me not only by endorsing me but also financially. Personally he gave me KSh5 million because beating an incumbent MP is not easy,” he narrated.
