Close bond with Nelson Mandela

Amidst his global travels, Jeff cherishes the deep bond he forged with the iconic Nelson Mandela.

The devastation struck hardest when, after each interview with Mandela, the great leader would lovingly inquire if Jeff had granted him the title of grandfather yet.

Their hope was reignited when a friend recommended a doctor in Barcelona.

In 2007, their prayers were answered as they welcomed their beloved son, Jamal Mbiyu Koinange, into the world.

Jamal, the apple of their eye, remains a private figure, rarely stepping into the spotlight.

Recalling their time in South Africa, Jeff sought to share the joy of Mbiyu’s presence with Mandela before their departure to Kenya.
